Cheryl Perone - President and Chief Executive Officer

Cheryl PeroneCheryl Perone, President and Chief Executive Officer, has worked at Valley since September of 1987.  Her duties include administrative and clinical leadership for all clinical services at Valley, including those in Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Chemical Dependency.  She also chairs Valley’s Clinical Care Review Committee.

Cheryl is originally from North Carolina where she attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and earned her BA in Psychology.  She received a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology and Behavior Analysis from the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee.  She is a Licensed Psychologist and has worked as a psychologist and administrator in behavioral health since 1981.

 

Phyllis Gore - Director of Corporate Compliance and Quality Assurance

Phyllis GorePhyllis received a Bachelor of Science degree from Alderson Broaddus College in Medical Records Administration in May 1978 and became registered in November 1978.  She also received a Health Care Administration Certificate from West Virginia University in 1994.

Phyllis is a member and past president of the WV Behavioral Health Care Providers Association, member and past president of the WV Health Information Management Association.  Phyllis also serves as a member of the Fairmont State Community College, School of Health Information Technology, Advisory Committee.  Phyllis is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Shinnston where she teaches Sunday school, is a member of the choir and Praise dance team, and Chair of the Board of Deacons.

Phyllis resides at Lake Floyd near Clarksburg with her husband, Bruce, and children Kelli, a student at Fairmont State College, and Patrick, a student at Liberty High School.  Phyllis enjoys baking and promotes deaf culture by teaching sign language and using sign language in the interpretation of Christian music.

 

Joyce Hunter - Human Resources Director

Joyce HunterAs Director of Human Resources, Joyce Hunter, began her employment at Valley HealthCare System, in May 1998 when she returned to West Virginia.  Joyce has over 30 years of Human Resources experience.  She first gained her background in personnel management while working for a large real estate developer in Pompano Beach, Fla. in 1980.  While employed there, she was the Assistant to the Personnel Director for FPA Corporation.  FPA employed over 1,500 people and Joyce gained much of her experience in payroll, wage and benefit administration while in this position.  In 1990, she began working for Health Care Corporation of American (HCA) at Northwest Regional Hospital in Margate, Fla.  She held the position of Personnel Coordinator for this 180 bed Hospital.  This was her first introduction into the healthcare field and she became very familiar with healthcare requirements that included Workers’ Compensation, Safety and OSHA training as it applies to the medical field.  

Upon relocation to Ohio in 1992, she accepted a job with Horizon HealthCare Corporation as the Human Resources Manager for Horizon Village, a 220 bed Long Term Care Nursing Home in Warren, Ohio.  During her tenure there, she gained knowledge in the areas of recruitment and retention for healthcare as well as JCHAO (Joint Commission on HealthCare Administration Organization).   Horizon Village became the first Long Term Care Facility for Horizon HealthCare Corporation to receive a Certification with Commendation upon their first application to this process.

Joyce was born and raised in Clarksburg where she now resides with her husband, William, to whom she has been married to since 1978.

 

Gerry Schmidt - Chief Operations Officer

Gerry SchmidtGerry has been at Valley HealthCare System since September 1980. Gerry has been in the mental health and addictions treatment field for the past thirty-four years.  He started with the State of West Virginia working as an alcohol and drug counselor doing assessments, treatment and prevention in January, 1972.  He was promoted to Regional Coordinator of the Center on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in Clarksburg before leaving to pursue private practice before coming to Valley in 1980.  Since coming to Valley he has been instrumental in developing a comprehensive system of addiction outpatient and residential services in the region. 

Gerry has a variety of publications to his credit including several articles on the development of Employee Assistance Programs in rural areas and wellness in the workplace.  In May, 2005, he published an article in The Addiction Professional on his work and findings with the CSAT sponsored Practitioner’s Services Network (PSN) project.  Gerry is the past president of the West Virginia Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors.  He currently sits on the Board of the Marion Regional Development Corporation, as well as the Board of the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors for the Fairmont Renaissance Corporation, serves on the North Central West Virginia Community Trust Foundation Board of Directors, the Fairmont General Hospital Foundation Board of Directors.  Gerry is currently the Clinical Affairs Consultant for NAADAC and has been active in the coordination and delivery of the series of Practitioners Services Network (PSN) projects for NAADAC and CSAT.  Most recently, Gerry has served on CSAT’s Expert Panel to review the revisions currently being made to TAP 21, which should be released later this year. 

Gerry is a lifetime resident of Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont State College with a BA in Psychology in 1971 and received a Masters in Counseling Psychology from West Virginia University in 1976.  He is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and certified as a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) and as a licensed clinical supervisor (LCS).

 

Greg DeMasi - Chief Financial Officer

Greg DeMasi joined Valley HealthCare System as the Chief Financial Officer on September 28, 2009.  He came highly recommended and brings with him vast experience from the private sector.  Prior to joining Valley,  he was employed by a Fortune 500 Company and his primary responsibilities included Managing the General Accounting Department, Financial Reporting, Capital Project Reporting, Financial Analysis and Business Contract Review and Approval.  While then, he successfully led the Internal and External Audit Teams.   His previous experience has included Government Reporting, Budgeting and Forecasting and Strategic Planning.  Some of the projects that he participated in included Sarbanes-Oxley Internal Controls Implementations, SAP IT Systems Implementations, a Government Reporting Implementation and Shared Services and Integration projects.  Greg received his BS in Accounting and his Master of Professional Accountancy Degree from West Virginia University.   When asked about his vision for Valley, Greg stated "Some of the goals for Valley HealthCare System that I would like to achieve in the near future include improved budgetary controls, reducing existing expenditures and increasing process efficiency".  Greg resides in Morgantown with is wife, Keri and one year old daughter, Isabella.
